Since 2005, Transition Tradition has worked with a diverse collective of supporters to champion and articulate the value of humanities education and scholarship.
humanities leadership
We passionately believe that humanities-informed approaches can help individuals, groups and organisations solve a whole gamut of contemporary problems.
Humanities-informed approaches underpin our leadership and organisational development consultancy but over the last 15 years we have also led a number of projects specifically focussed on growing and enhancing humanities leadership.
The Beyond Project
Through the Beyond project we offer humanities-specific personal, professional and academic development opportunities, for students and staff at further and higher education institutions across the UK.
We offer a range of specialist personal, professional and academic development workshops. Our sessions are designed to address the challenges faced by different groups within the contemporary humanities community including:
- Academic staff
- Administrative and support staff
- Leaders and Managers
- Post docs and research staff
- Taught postgraduate students
- Research students
- Undergraduate students

Beyond the BA - Talks and Training
We offer a range of innovative workshops for undergraduate students; going beyond narrow definitions of ‘careers’ and ’employability’ we support participants to critically reflect upon their relationship with their subject and consider the value and utility of the humanities in different contexts.

Beyond the PhD – Training and website archive
Beyond the PhD was a web-based career resource for arts and humanities PhD researchers. It brought together a desire to make visible what happens to postgraduate researchers after they graduate and an ambition to avoid easy prescriptions of ‘getting your perfect job’.
Beyond the PhD was developed by the UK Centre for Career Management Studies (CCMS). The project ended in 2010 but a copy of the site data is retained by Transition Tradition – please get in touch if you would like to discuss access.
We continue to offer a range of specialist personal and professional development workshops for research students, post docs and early stage career research staff.

Humanities Advocacy
Since 2005, Transition Tradition has worked with a diverse collective of supporters to champion and articulate the value of humanities education and scholarship.
The “Beyond…” Project started in 2005 when Sam Delbaere created an online platform to share ideas, information and insight to support arts and humanities students experiencing the transition after undergraduate study.
The platform published original content by its student / graduate audience and was staffed entirely by students and recent graduates many of whom used their experience at the magazine as the basis for subsequent careers in publishing, charities etc.
We are very proud of the subsequent achievements of the community Transition Tradition supported via the platform.
