We Should Have Gone To University
This is a sad and momentous collection for Reuben, it marks their decision to call an indefinite hiatus on the band. This knowledge adds a certain poignance to the collection title, particularly as I'm sure there are Transition Tradition readers who would willingly trade university for a main stage set at Download Festival and a Kerrang! award nomination for 'Best British Newcomer'. In a similar vein, I'm sure there are now institutions across the country who would welcome the band as visiting lecturers after three outstanding studio albums.
Part of the South England scene that spawned fellow rockers Vex Red and Hundred Reasons, Reuben have always been famed for their blistering live sets. Fans will be relieved to know that none of the immediacy is lost on album tracks such as Alpha Signal Six and there are plenty of live performances included (such as Scared of the Police and Miffy in Auschwitz, live from the BBC).
This epic double CD and DVD package is a fitting tribute to one of the hardest working, unsung heroes of the British rock circuit. They will be missed.
