Let Them Eat Cake
Let Them Eat Cake is a unique quarterly fashion magazine for emerging Fashion Assistants. Providing a platform for new talent and a breath of fresh air, it allows the next generation to do something for themselves.
The magazine forms a valuable creative outlet for assistants to credible photographers, stylists, and hair and make-up artists. Content includes commissioned work, articles on designers and new photographers of our time as well as interviews with industry professionals. The team behind it includes editors and designers who, as assistants, have worked on noted publications including; Pop, Arena Homme Plus, Sleaze nation, Tank, I-D, Big, The Face, Dazed & Confused, Vogue Nippon, Vogue Russia, L'Uomo Vogue, Ten, and Harpers Bazaar. Working for industry professionals, they have taken on board the experiences on offer; however have noticed that as their attention is on the job in hand they are ignoring the need to stay creative. As assistants, they need to reaffirm why they are in the fashion industry, by continuing to produce work of their own and create a network of similar minded individuals.
The term Let Them Eat Cake is known for its association with Marie Antoinette and the French revolution. It was the Queen's blase remark when told that her subjects were starving that resulted in the uprising of peasants. Although dismissed as a myth, this phrase symbolises the ignorance of the elite and acted as the catalyst for a new beginning.
And what better an industry to use this expression than in fashion. Let the uprising begin... for fashion's sake Let them Eat Cake!
