Broken Social Scene

There has been a huge amount of expectation surrounding the release of Broken Social Scene’s follow up to 2002’s stunning You Forgot It In People. The weight of this expectation doesn’t seem to have fazed this gang of Canadians; Broken Social Scene successfully continues what its predecessor triumphantly began. The beautifully considered production celebrates the rich songwriting talents of Kevin Drew and his ten or so collaborators. Opener ”Our Faces Split the Coast in Half” manages to set the tone perfectly and from this strong foundation the record effortlessly shifts from the gentility of “Major Label Debut” to the sloppy, yet driving indie rock of “Superconnected”. As smart as it is, Broken Social Scene does fall a little short of You Forgot It In People, but then most things do. Let’s move to Canada.
