Axis is the leading online guide to artists practising in the UK today.

As a national organisation for the visual arts, Axis provides a unique information service presenting new artists, new work and new trends. Helping artists and those who seek to engage with artists, Axis aims to increase awareness, understanding and stimulate interaction with visual arts practice.

In 1999 Axis launched its online service and now hosts the most comprehensive national database of UK artists.
All applications to join the database are assessed by a curatorial panel. Axis are looking for professional practising artists who live and work in the UK and who can demonstrate a critical engagement with contemporary practice.

As a professional practising artist you are expected to fulfil some or all of the following criteria:

• Hold a formal qualification in an art related subject (e.g. BA or MA) or equivalent.
• Exhibit your work regularly.
• Sell your work regularly.
• Receive commissions to produce work.
• Undertake residencies.
Artists who have recently graduated from an arts related degree must demonstrate that they are continuing to produce new work and are developing their practice.
